Enough limes from Mexico and Brazil available again after shortages
12 December 2019
After a challenging season with a high supply and often low prices, the limes market in Europe has recovered in recent weeks. Due to the drought in Mexico, there were almost no Mexican limes available and Brazil, partly due to good domestic demand, exported significantly less volumes to Europe. This resulted in high prices, mainly on the spot market.
In the meantime, volumes from Mexico and Brazil have increased and sufficient limes are available again. Peter traveled trough Brazil in december to see how the situation is right now. In Brazil, the new harvest has started with many small sizes. The prices for the large sizes are back to normal, but due to the large numbers of small sizes that are already available, the prices for the small sizes are already under pressure.
